Proud of Pollokshields'Proud of Pollokshields' was the first organised community-wide cleanup campaign in Pollokshields, instigated by four local residents. It raised the profile of community action to improve neighbourhood environment and now thrives through the individual groups active in the area. In association with, and substantial support from the City Council agencies responsible for local amenity and a healthv environment:- Clean Glasgow Campaign Glasgow Community Safety Services Glasgow City Council, Strathclyde Police, Glasgow' Community Safety Partnership and the city's public space CCTV company are engaged on a variety of initiatives, including the Clean Glasgow Campaign. The LAND element of the LES remit is to manage, maintain and develop the city's land, road transport and environmental resources in a sustainable manner. This includes parks and open spaces, parks development and the Countryside Ranger Service. The maintenance and design of roads, footpaths, cycleways, lighting and traffic management are also within their remit, and some specialist services. The ENVIRONMENTAL element of LES strives to maintain and improve general standards of public health and safety, enforcing legislation and providing environmental services - to keep the streets clean, to collect and dispose of refuse by environmentallyfriendly means and to ensure compliance with hygiene laws, and to monitor air quality and contaminated land.
